September 2007 Skinner Butte and River House Eugene Oregon

End of September and we are painting on top of Skinner Butte overlooking downtown Eugene.
Beautiful view and very sunny September 26, Wednesday.

Robin found the shade and got here first.

Dorothy and I were in the sun, but the view was worth it, even with the smoke from a forest service burn in the air.

Sally, Jacki, and Sally's friend from California arrived last and moved up the hill into the shade. I don't blame them.

Friday, September 28, the rains started. We don't let that bother us.

Phemie brought her umbrella. Good thinking.

Dorothy and Peggie were dressed for the weather, but still got a little wet.

I painted till the acrylic paint started washing off the paper. Note the fine transparency in this work ;-{)

Plein Air Workshops at Emerald Art Center

The last of the Emerald Art Center workshops for the year are coming up soon. Ron Ranson's workshop is September 24-28 with a demo Wednesday evening, Sept. 26th, at the Wildish Theater in Springfield. This workshop is not plein air but he does paint wonderful landscapes, and his "big brush" watercolor technique works well plein air.

Humberto Gonzales at Ona Beach, July 2006.

Humberto Gonzales' workshop is October 6-8 with his demo on the evening of Saturday, October 6, at the Emerald Art Center in Springfield. This workshop is all outside. Humberto paints large (full sheet) lose watercolors.

Both of these instructors have taught here at the EAC last year and both got rave reviews from their students. I have attended workshops by both of these artists and I really learned a lot from each of them. I am signed up for Humberto's October workshop.

Details about how to sign up can be found on the EAC website:http://www.emeraldartcenter.org/workshops.html

Shows for Plein Air Artists

Here are a few shows around Eugene and Springfield that contain art works by the plein air painters. If I have missed any of your art, please let me know and I will update this post.
Phemie Wesley has eleven works at Full City Coffee Shop on Pearl. I was in there today (9/7) and four works had sold signs on them. Nice looking show, Phemie, very professionally framed and hung.
Jacki Lukowski has a solo show at Koho Grill on Bailey Hill Road. I was there when she was unloading them and it is a nice selection of Jacki's recent works. She has small watercolors to large oil paintings. They will be up through October.
Sarkis Antikajian and Pam Enberg have paintings in "Figurative Speaking" show at DIVA on Broadway.
Renee Nelson and Bets Cole have paintings in the Eugene Mayors Art Show at Jacobs' Gallery. Congratulations Renee and Bets.
I saw several of our artists' works in the "Refuse" show at New Zone Gallery. I have one there with Sally and who else?
We have scheduled a Plein Air Artists show at Reed and Cross on Oakway for the months of December, 2007 and January 2008. So start looking for a work that you would like to hang in this show. Let me know if you are interested in participating in the Reed and Cross show.

Congratulations again to all our artists that have art work out there making Eugene and Springfield an artistic place to live.
